The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has entered into a strategic partnership with Swedfund, Sweden’s Development Finance Institution, to enhance the security and resilience of Nigeria’s 5G telecommunications infrastructure. This move comes amid growing concerns about potential vulnerabilities and cyber threats associated with the rollout of fifth-generation (5G) technology across critical national infrastructure. With 5G offering high-speed internet, ultra-low latency, and massive device connectivity, it is set to revolutionize how sectors such as health, energy, education, and transportation operate. However, these advantages come with the challenge of increased exposure to cyber threats, espionage risks, and vendor-related complications due to the technology’s…
The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) will unveil a five-year national spectrum roadmap in November, aiming to enhance broadband quality and expand internet connectivity nationwide. The initiative, led by the Executive Vice Chairman (EVC) Aminu Maida, will guide how Nigeria allocates, manages, and optimises its finite spectrum resources to meet rising digital demands and achieve the National Broadband Plan 2020–2025. Maida, who spoke to TechCabal on the sidelines of Moonshot by TechCabal last Wednesday, described spectrum as “the invisible highway” that carries data between telecom infrastructure and users’ devices. He likened it to a multilane road network with limited capacity, a…
The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has unveiled a public-facing crowdsourcing report and National Coverage Maps, which mark a major step in the country’s drive toward data-driven regulation and improved consumer experience in the telecommunications sector. The project, launched in partnership with Ookla, a global leader in network intelligence and performance measurement, forms part of the NCC’s Quality of Service (QoS) and Quality of Experience (QoE) crowdsourcing initiative. With the new coverage maps and crowdsourced data tools, the NCC aims to make Nigeria’s telecom ecosystem more transparent, consumer-focused, and innovation-driven—ensuring that every Nigerian enjoys reliable, high-quality connectivity. Chip Strange, chief strategy…
By A. A. Mshelia In an age where politics is loud, but leadership is faint, Rt. Hon. Muktar Betara Aliyu, OON, continues to stand as a rare figure carved by focus, discipline, and vision. His trajectory in public life has been one long testimony that a leader can be tested by arrows of envy, rivalry, propaganda and storms yet remain unshaken — not because he trades words or fights back, but because results have always spoken louder than any rebuttal. For more than a decade in the National Assembly, Betara has built a reputation not on theatrics but on competence…
By Johannes Tobi Wojuola At this time two years ago, Nigeria’s telecommunications sector was far from thriving. Consider the industry debts—both those among operators and those owed to them by banks. Or the Federal Government’s NIN-SIM linkage policy, which had suffered seven postponements since December 2020. Then there were the tariffs. They had remained static for a decade, and as a result, investors were looking the other way while investments dipped—a bad omen for a sector whose lifeblood is a constant flow of capital. All of these translated into networks that were hanging on their last legs.To cap it all,…
The leader of Niger Delta Forum Comrade Sunday Briggs speaking with media on 13th October, 2025 in Port Harcourt, Rivers State has strongly warned against the call by Omoyele Sowore for the #MNKOct20 Campaign # with attendant solidarity gestures anywhere in the region. Briggs posited that the planned course of action is hinged on the argument by Aloy Ejimakor, counsel to Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, that Kanu’s trial is illegal due to his extraordinary rendition from Kenya, for which a counterperspective holds that Nigeria retains the legal authority to prosecute Kanu for alleged crimes, and halting the trial would undermine justice…

Charting A New Course: Our Transition From PDP To APC, Is Rooted In Service And Sacrifice For A Better Enugu State. – Peter Mbah. Our Movement From PDP To APC Defines Our Resolve To Put The People, And Our Ongoing Projects In Enugu State Above Political Correctness. – Peter Mbah. Dateline 14th October, 2025, it was a political tsunami of sorts as almost the entire political structure of the Peoples Democracy Party PDP in Enugu State defected to the All Progressive Congress APC in a move that was clearly long overdue considering the protracted unwillingness of the PDP to heed…
Since assuming office as the Executive Vice Chairman (EVC) of the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), Dr. Aminu Maida has taken bold and practical steps to reform the Nigerian telecommunications sector, with a clear focus on transparency, consumer protection, and operational efficiency. One of his most remarkable achievements to date is the introduction of the Tariff Simplification Framework, aimed at resolving long-standing complaints about unclear and inconsistent billing practices in the telecom industry. For years, Nigerian consumers have struggled to understand the complex and often confusing structure of mobile data and voice tariffs. The abundance of bundles, add-ons, and hidden charges…
